Cats need training on how to use a litter box. One of the things you can do is provide a clean, accessible litter box. If your cat has an accident, wipe it up with a paper towel and put it in the litter box. Then place your cat in the litter box to reinforce the idea that this is where your cat needs to come. Always keep a litter box clean and comfortable and have a consistent location for it.
Choose a full-size, easy to clean and plastic litter box.
The litter box should be kept in a spot that affords your cat some privacy yet is also conveniently located. If you place the litter box in a closet or a bathroom, be sure the door is wedged open from both sides to prevent her from being trapped inside or locked out.
When you switch the new cat litter, give your cat time to adjust. For the best results, sprinkle a thin layer of new cat litter on top of the litter you use now. Once your cat has adjusted, empty the litter box completely and refill with the new filler.
Remove waste daily. When disposing of litter, carefully dispose of used litter in the trash. Do not flush the litter down the toilet or dispose of it down a drain. Once a month, empty entire litter box.
